Odisha Police pip PFA to lift Kuber Cup

Odisha Police (Cuttack) emerged champions in the All-India Kuber Cup Invitational Football Tournament, which concluded at Unit-Vi High School ground here on today. In the nail-biting final match, Odisha Police beat Phulbani Football Association 4-1 in tie-breaker. Tie-break rule was applied after play in the regulation time ended in a goalless draw.

The champion team received the trophy along with a cash prize of Rs 15,000, while runners-up Phulbani Football Association contended themselves with the runners-up prize of Rs 10,000. Himansu Majhi and Singu Marandi bagged the prizes as the man of the tournament and man of the match respectively.

Earlier in the semifinals, Odisha Police edged out South Central Railway (Secunderabad) 1-0, while Phulbani Football Association pipped the host Friends and Friends Youth Association 3-2 in the tie-breaker.
Parliament Member Baijayant Panda handed over the trophy and other prizes at the closing function. Among others, local MLAs Bhagirathi Badajena, Bijay Kumar Mohanty and host association secretary Madhusudhan Reedy were present on the occasion.
